Crescent City Book One: House of Earth and Blood Review

I have a short one for you all today. This one was hard to write honestly, but here we go!

⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

My Thoughts:

I want to start by talking about how disappointed I am with this book. I almost hated it, genuinely almost hated it. The only think keeping me from that was the small tid-bits of romance we would get. It really breaks my heart to say that because up to this point I've really loved SJM's writing. From the very beginning, something about the characters and the writing felt forced. It almost felt like the author didn't know where to go with the book or the characters. They were just bland and unrelatable to me. I did not connect or care about anyone in this book, It always felt like when something would happen between Bryce and Hunt other things kept coming up, which after the first two times, was EXTREMELY annoying.  I honestly feel like I'm bashing the book but I just really disliked it. This just didn't feel like a Sarah j. Maas book to me. It's hard for me to put into words what I feel about this book because I was just so underwhelmed by it. The only reason I finished it is because, like I said before, I really liked all of her other books.

Either way I bought the second book to give it a shot , but honestly I don't know if I'll be picking it up any time soon. I've started reading the Cruel Prince, and I've heard pretty good things about it, so I hope this will keep me from falling into another slump like this book almost did.

I'm so bummed about this review and this book. Maybe my expectations were too high.
