Book Courtship Tag

The Book Courtship Tag is an original tag by Hi I Love Books on Youtube. So onto the questions!

Initial Attraction: A book that you bought because of the cover
I just bought these from Bookoutlet because of the covers... and because I wanted to read them.

First Impressions: A book that you got because of the summary

I'm going to have to go with Simon Versus the Homo-Sapiens Agenda. My English Teacher used to talk about this book all the time and when I read the synopsis I was just like...

Sweet Talk: A book with great writing
I think all books have great writing. I may not like some of it but so what.

First Date: A first book of a series which made you want to pursue the rest of the series

Throne of Glass... I wouldn't have read the other books if the first one was bad.

Late night phone calls: A book that kept you up all night long

The ACOTAR Series all the way!!! Always!!!

Always on my mind: A book that you could not stop thinking about

AGAIN... The ACOTAR Series and The Throne of Glass Series

Getting Physical: A book in which you love the way it feels

The Lunar Chronicles Books... Ugh!! Those books are so soft. *heart eyes*

Meeting the Parents: A book in which you would recommend to your friends and family

Eleanor and Park! That book is so cute I think everyone would love that book.

Thinking about the future: A book or series that you know you’ll re-read many times in the future

I don't really like re-reading books... It's just not the same as reading it for the first time. That is the reason I haven't re-read A Court of Mist and Fury.

If you want to do this tag too, you are now tagged! If you do do it, leave a link in the comments and I’ll totally check out your answers!

The Never Open Desert-Diner Review

Author: James Anderson
Title: The Never-Open Desert Diner
Rating: 1/5 ( I think this is the lowest rating I have ever given a book).
Synopsis: Ben Jones lives a quiet, hardscrabble life, working as a trucker on Route 117, a little-traveled road in a remote region of the Utah desert which serves as a haven for fugitives and others looking to hide from the world. For many of the desert's inhabitants, Ben's visits are their only contact with the outside world, and the only landmark worth noting is a once-famous roadside diner that hasn’t opened in years. Ben's routine is turned upside down when he stumbles across a beautiful woman named Claire playing a cello in an abandoned housing development. He can tell that she's fleeing something in her past — a dark secret that pushed her to the end of the earth — but despite his better judgment he is inexorably drawn to her. As Ben and Claire fall in love, specters from her past begin to resurface, with serious and life-threatening consequences not only for them both, but for others who have made this desert their sanctuary. Dangerous men come looking for her, and as they turn Route 117 upside down in their search, the long-buried secrets of those who've laid claim to this desert come to light, bringing Ben and the other locals into deadly conflict with Claire's pursuers. Ultimately, the answers they all seek are connected to the desert’s greatest mystery — what really happened all those years ago at the never-open desert diner?

My Thoughts: I don't have anything to really say about this book. I got this book in March and I have been trying to finish it since then but I just can't. From the synopsis I thought that it was something that I was going to like but it was really disappointing when every time I tried to read it I almost died of boredom. I just wish the book was a little better so that I could at least finish it but I'm not going to waste anymore time trying to finish this book because I'm trying to keep away from the reading slump. Plus this book was putting me deeper and deeper into that hole and now I don't even want to look at books. (The reason there hasn't been that many reviews). I'm not trying to be rude or anything. The book probably gets better but I just couldn't spend another minute reading that book.

If you have read this book and you enjoyed it, let me know I might consider trying to read it again.

Totally Should've Book Tag

1. Totally should've gotten a sequelEleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell... I need it. Its necessary!!

2. Totally should've had a spin off series
I don't know The Hunger Games maybe Divergent.

3. An author who totally should write more books
Sarah J. Maas! I think she is my favorite author and even though she is writing more books I need more.

4. A character who totally should've ended up with someone else
This is not in a romantic sense what so ever but Maven should've ended up with the Scarlet Guard... Not his mother.

5. Totally should've ended differently
Cinder by Marissa Meyer, I hated that ending but I also haven't taken the time to read Scarlet.

6. Totally should've had a movie franchise
The Throne of Glass series... or maybe they should make the rest of the Percy Jackson movies

7. Totally should've had a TV show
Maybe Divergent because the movies were the worst movies I had ever seen.

8. Totally should've had only one point of view
Allegiant. Talk about confusing. Tris and Four sounded like the exact same person.

9. Totally should have a cover change
All the Vampire Academy books. That is the only reason I never picked them up. Those covers are UGLY!

10. Totally should've kept the original covers
The Across the Universe Series. Those cover changes are bad.

11. Totally should've stopped at book one

The Divergent Series. I think most people have read the books so you know what I mean. I did like Insurgent but Divergent could've been a stand alone.

I'm not going to be active much for a while. As you can tell I haven't posted in 3-4 days. I will try to post but it is not a guarantee.

The TV Show that took over everyone's lives... I don't understand why.

This contains spoilers. I'm not bashing the show... I did like it a little. I just don't understand why people are so insane over it.

Stranger Things...Yes this is about Stranger Things... If you haven't heard about this show, it is an 8 episode series on Netflix. The show is mostly about this boy Will Byre who disappears one night when returning home from a day of playing Dungeons and Dragons with his friends Mike, Dustin, and Lucas. No one knows what happened because he basically disappeared without a trace. The whole town is looking for this boy but they don't know that his disappearance is more complicated and darker than they think. Will's friends meet a girl named Eleven who says she knows what happened to Will and she helps them on the journey to find their friend. Blah Blah Blah.... Aliens

This show is all hype. I'm not saying it's bad because it's not... BUT with all the hype surrounding it I had some expectations and the show definitely FLOPPED. This was not amazing like everyone says it is and I just don't get it. I like alien shows somewhat I like thrillers, I like mysteries and honestly I feel like the only thing the show really had going for it were the characters.

Yeah the story was interesting but I don't think it lives up to the 5 stars it has on Netflix... Hush deserved it but not this. The story was a bland generic Sci-fi. I just wish there was something more that really made the show pack a punch but it wasn't there. The show was BORING. The only time the show really had me on the edge of my seat were the last two episodes. THE LAST 2 EPISODES... Now if that isn't disappointing I don't know what is. I know the show had to build up to what happened in the end but I just feel like a series with 8 episodes should not take 7 episodes to rush the ending like it did in episode 8 and then leave us with a stupid cliff hanger that doesn't really make sense.

I'm pretty sure I know what happened but it was a mess. I kinda sat there like... Did the alien drop its babies in him? Is he actually an alien? Which I guess is kinda the point but there was really no ending. That's why I relied on the characters to get me through this.

Chief Jim Hopper: Probably one of my favorite characters in this show. He's so flawed which makes him a perfect character... Almost realistic. This man has gone through so much! His daughter got cancer and died. Right after that his wife divorced him so he moved, became chief of police in Hawkins, Indiana and started relying on drugs and alcohol. He was bored with his life and filled with grief because he lost EVERYTHING. That's why I love him because despite all the crap that happened to him, he still kicked ass in the season. He was AWESOME! Being captured and drugged by government agent? Pssh piece of cake! Knowing that The body they found that was supposedly Will's was fake? I already knew it! Like that guy was bad ass.

Nancy: I hate her. She's a preppy little brat that is a wannabe popular kid because she's dating Steve Harrington, The most popular boy in school or whatever! She is a total B**** and an idiot. I've never disliked a character more (besides Jeoffrey Baratheon). All she cares about is boys and her appearance. Yeah she is a good student or whatever and she eventually redeemed herself when she decided to help Jonathan. Whatever I still don't like her. Also if it wasn't for her dragging Barb to that party and leaving her behind, Barb might have still been alive. But Nancy wanted to be a little thirsty butt and sleep with Steve.

Jonathan: Woo!! Getting a little Leonardo DiCaprio vibe right? I love his character. He's the creepy photographer that was taking pictures of the party that Barb and Nancy were at. He caught on camera what took Barb... AKA genius! This kid was always being picked on especially after his brother went missing. People were saying that he killed Will and other awful things. That made me like him even more! He is also a bad ass character! He's smart AF and he can fight!!! Be beat up Steve YAYAYAYAYA!!! He also protected his mother when people were calling her crazy for saying she could communicate with Will through the lights. Such a good character tho.

Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Eleven: These kids are so smart and adorable. Like what more can I say. They like The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. They play Dungeons and Dragons for hours on end... They are so funny! I love them all. That's all I can really say about them they are awesome characters and they used their knowledge of fictional monsters to help find Will and Eleven with her powers and wig.

Joyce Byers: Will's mother. The Crazy lady that talked to lights. She had that mother's intuition. She just knew Will wasn't dead and I was so happy to see her fight so hard to get her son back despite the evidence that was presented to her. Joyce and the Chief mad a great team. She was a single mother working at a hardware store trying to make ends meet. She was so awesome. I let it slide that I hate Winona Ryder so that I could like her character. She was mom. She was everyone's mom and I loved her.

Highlights of the show:

  • The Chief being a drug addict that lost his family and also awesome.
  • The secret Government Experiments happening right inside town.
  • The Alien monster thing killing people.
  • Will's older brother Jonathan (Swoon!)
  • Nancy being an idiot all the time
  • Eleven and Mike.
  • Steve not being a complete ass at the end
  • Will throwing up the little alien worm on Christmas.
  • Eleven dying.  (not a good thing but still)
  • The fake will body
  • Dustin. He was so sassy.
  • Will's Mom
Things I didn't like:
  • Nancy
  • Steve
  • Nancy's mom
  • Steve's friends
  • The government agents
  • The whole plot
I don't hate the show but at most it deserves a 3.5/5 stars maybe 4. But please explain to me why everyone is so insane about this show? Is there something I'm missing or is it just people over hyping the show because its new? Let me know what you think in the comments below. I can't be the only one with this opinion.

Red Queen Review

There are spoilers... But I didn't spoil everything.

Title: Red Queen

Author: Victoria Aveyard

Rating: 4/5

Synopsis: This is a world divided by blood – red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

Quote: “The truth is what I make it. I could set this world on fire and call it rain.”

My Thoughts: I liked this book. It was interesting but it was a little generic. I felt like I've read it before... I kind of knew what was going to happen before it did. But that's not going to stop me from reading the other books in the series because I still want to know if it will surprise me. On another note... I didn't know I can ship one person with three other people but now I see that she would be better off alone... Even though I somewhat like Cal he's a butt hole and Kilorn... He just annoys me sometimes. I thought it was kinda dumb the way things played out. Like people really expecting Cal to choose Mare over everything he spent his life working for. Like I don't think he was in love with her... she was only at the castle for a month and if he did love her he certainly doesn't anymore... and Maven too it seemed like he was developing feelings for her. I saw that especially in the scene after his father died when they were in the dungeon... I don't know I have so theories.... Like the Queen is mind controlling Maven... I know... but I'm bitter... I really shipped Maven and Mare so HARD!!!!
Likes:

  • Maven saying Mare would've been his Red Queen.... AAAHHH!!!
  • Cal.
  • Kilorn.
  • I like the fake Maven... I adored him.
  • Cal and Mare's first kiss....
  • Maven and Mare's first kiss...
  • Lucas
  • Julian
  • Shade being alive...
  • Her brothers coming back

Dislikes:

  • Queenstrial....
  • Evangeline
  • Maven
  • Queen Elara... I hate her...
  • The King even though he didn't do anything.
  • Gisa's hand getting smashed
  • Farley is so annoying. I hate her too...
  • Evangeline with Cal.... No...
  • Cal always wanting please his father.
  • The way everything played out.

I think Queen Elara is mind controlling her son. It's the only way I will believe that his is capable of the evil things he's going to do. I think he really does have feelings for Mare and his mother doesn't like it so she is controlling him to break her heart.... Right????
Anyway... I'm going to try to buy the next book... but I should try to complete this months TBR... I don't know...

The Tales of Beedle the Bard Review

Title: The Tales of Beedle the Bard
Author: J.K. Rowling
Rating: 3.5/5
Synopsis: The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a Wizarding classic, first came to Muggle readers’ attention in the book known as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Now, thanks to Hermione Granger’s new translation from the ancient runes, we present this stunning edition with an introduction, notes, and illustrations by J. K. Rowling, and extensive commentary by Albus Dumbledore. Never before have Muggles been privy to these richly imaginative tales: “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump,” and of course, “The Tale of the Three Brothers.” But not only are they the equal of fairy tales we now know and love, reading them gives new insight into the world of Harry Potter.
Quote: “Death comes for us all in the end.”
My Thoughts: This book was so cute. The little stories were pretty interesting and I liked getting to see what Dumbledore thought of all of them. I especially like The Tale of the Three Brothers and The Warlock's Hairy Heart because they weren't regular children's stories they had darker themes to them. There's not much to say I really liked the illustrations. While reading I was posting pictures of them on Instagram. I'm glad that it wasn't boring and it was a quick and light read which I needed after finishing the Hunger Games Trilogy.

The Urban Dictionary Book Tag [Original]

I scoured the inter webs trying to see if someone has already made this and I couldn't find anything but if there is let me know. This idea popped into my head while I was on google trying to find something to do with myself. So I decided to create a Tag. Why Urban Dictionary you may ask? Well I say why not Urban Dictionary.... I don't know. I'm always looking stuff up on Urban Dictionary because some Americans don't speak English and I cannot understand it. Also I'm going to be putting definitions of the words just incase you don't know them and they are going to be stragight from the website. So beware of the language. I will try to keep it clean. Anyway yeah... Heres the Tag.

1.) Trolling: The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue.
Name a character that is constantly being a jerk.

Peter from Divergent. He is so rude!

2.) Swag: Originally from the Scottish slang word "swagger" which was a description of the way some Scots walk (in a swaying motion), the word was then misinterpreted by the English as "the way someone presents themselves".
Name a character that cares about nothing but their appearance.

Hardin from After! He always wants to keep up this bad boy facade and doesn't let anyone see who he truly is.

3.) Thats what she said: a phrase used to turn a simple comment into a sexual joke.
Name a character that makes innocent situations inappropriate or awkward.

Ron Weasley or Fred and George.

4.) Y.O.LO.: You Only Live Once.
Name a character that does completely reckless things and still somehow survives.

Harry Potter... Amiright?

5.) Virgin Ears: Ears that have not yet been exposed to profanity or other vulgarity.
Name a character that is innocent and can do no wrong.

Prim. Sweet innocent little Prim would never hurt a fly!

6.) Petty: The act of keeping it too real, while others find it offensive. 100% honesty, even if it's “mean.”
Name a character who is brutally honest even if people find it offensive.

Draco Malfoy lives the petty life and it is wonderful. I also live the petty life and I don't care.

7.) Pwned: It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force.
Name a character that can brutally destroy their opponents.

Feyre Archeron. Yess... I know she can do it. I mean all of the evidence is in A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury.
8.) Flexing: showing off/fronting.
Name a character who likes to show off.
Celaena Sardothian. She did like to show off her skills and brag about being the greatest assassin in Adarlan. I noticed that a lot in The Assassin's Blade.

9.) Ego-Surfing: Continual, excessive monitoring of responses to one's own posts on an internet forum or blog. This behavior is motivated primarily by vanity, self-absorption and concern about one's own online image or reputation.
Name a character that is conceited/vain.
Im going to say Celaena again. She was a little vain. So yeah definitely Celaena. Aelin is a completely different story.

10.) Basic:An adjective used to describe any person, place, activity involving obscenely obvious behavior, dress, action.
Name a character that is SO predictable or a total cliche.
Gale Hawthorne. Throughout the whole trilogy he was so predictable and he was the best friend that thought he had a chance. Like Jacob.... *cough* Cliche *cough*. Plus I just don't like him

SO yeah heres the Tag... I had fun creating it as well as doing it.

I tag Alyssa specifically and anyone who wants to do it you are TAGGED! If you do this Tag let me know I would love to see your answers.
